What Is a robot?

A robot is an automated machine that can perform tasks with little or no human assistance at a very high speed and is very proficient.

Evolution of robots

The first robot was made by George Devol in the year 1954 which was called Unimate. It was a commercial, programmable and digital robot which he later sold to General Motors and was used to lift very hot metals from die casting machines. Since then, robots have been constantly evolving leading to creation of different types with better artificial intelligence. Thanks to George Devol for inventing the first robot, we the future generation are having an easy time to get certain tasks done fast and proficiently.

Types of robots

  • Industrial robots.
  • Medical robots.
  • Domestic robots.
  • Military robots.
  • Autonomous robots.
  • Humanoid robots.
  • Collaborative robots.
1.Industrial robots.

These are robots that are used in industries. Examples are articulated, cartesian, cylindrical.

  • Articulated- they have design features and can have two or more rotary joints (axis) and they usually have four to six axes.
  • Cartesian/gantry robots/rectilinear robots- they have three linear joints which tend to use the coordinates of the Cartesian plane (x, y, z). They also have a wrist that is attached to allow for rotational movement therefore delivering linear motion along the joint.
  • Cylindrical- it has a prismatic joint that connects with one rotary joint at the base which uses a rotating motion along the joint.
 2.Medical robots.

These are robots used in medical sciences and are mostly telemanipulates and are mostly surgical robots. The most recently developed medical robots are;

  • Xenex Germ-Zapping Robot.
  • The CyberKnife Robot.
  • The Tug Robot.
3.Domestic robots.

These are robots that are used to perform household chores. Examples are floor cleaners, lawn mowers, swimming pool cleaners,

  • Floor cleaners- vacuum cleaner is the first to do household chores.
  • Lawn mowers- they keep your grass in good condition.
  • Swimming pool cleaners- they clean the swimming pool quite often.
4.Military robots.

They are used during missions and planned attacks. Examples are;

  • Search and rescue military robots.
  • Armed military robots.
  • Firefighting military robots.
  • Mine clearance military robots.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle robots.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle robots.
5.Autonomous robots/auto robot/autobot.

These are robots that perform tasks with the highest degree of autonomy. Types are;

  • Goods-to-person picking robots.
  • Self-driving forklifts.
  • Autonomous inventory robots.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles.
6. Humanoid robots.

These are robots that are build in such a way that they resemble a human being. Examples are;

  • Ocean one.
  • Atlas.
  • Nao.
  • Robear.
  • Pepper.
7.Collaborative robots.

These robots are design to work with humans in close proximity. Daily human-robot interaction. Examples are;

  • Safety monitored stop.
  • Speed and separation.
  • Power and force limiting.
  • Hand guiding.

The closest and most frequently used and automated robots are the collaborative robots which we encounter in our day to day lives.

The future of robots

Robots tend to respond accordingly and effectively than human beings. In the future more people will opt to buy robots than to employ human labor.

Comparison between human labor and robot labor

Humans sometimes need to be pushed by their bosses in order to work efficiently at their work stations while robots do not require any supervision but the click of a button in order to perform all the required tasks.

Humans get exhausted as they are working, meaning they will require resting time which is also economical and a loss to a business while robots work as long as the controller of the robot wants. The only requirement that is crucial is having frequent checkups on the robot to ensure that all parts are functioning as required.

Humans require weekly, monthly or yearly pay after working while robots do not demand for any payment except the maintenance cost is the only requirement.

Skilled human labor can sometimes be difficult to acquire as the number of literate people is very low while robots are well skilled ready to perform tasks immediately after purchase.

Future robot jobs

The future employers will no longer want to engage humans in the company operations as they are incompetent and wanting. All employers will put effort to purchase robots to work for them in their businesses.

Restaurants will no longer employ humans to serve other humans as everything will be done by robots and payments done online. With strategic planning and establishment of restaurants, clients will be served their orders by moving robots and automated systems that will serve their meals from the ceilings and tables cleared and cleaned by the same robots.

Hospitals are also absorbing the technology of robots. Patients are pre- examined by robots and this brings about the feeling of 100% confidentiality between robot and the patient. This will greatly encourage the community to visit the hospitals to know their health status and this will greatly influence a country’s population in one way or another.

Increase in a country’s economy will be greatly impacted by implantation of robots as corruption will be curbed as there will be no room for bribing in offices as robots are programmed in a way that they cannot admit extra or improper information into the system.

Injustices will no longer be part an issue as there will be less cases that will be handled in court unprofessionally. Robots will release fair and just judgement to the accused persons as there will be no way of corrupting the robot’s system.

Finances of a country will be greatly managed as no one can successfully access a government’s funds without prior information from the president or head of the country.

Conclusion

 Robots have brought great impact to the community as they have led to the increase in production especially in industries and has also led to unemployment as the robots have replaced human labor.

Robots will control all works in the future, leaving only the literate people with a chance to earn as they will do programming jobs for the robots which is leave out a lot of people unemployed. Creatively and literacy is what will assist people in creation of better robots.
